24: Live Another Day launches with over 500,000 on Wednesday

24: Live Another Day launched to impressive ratings for Sky1 on Wednesday, according to overnight figures.

Jack Bauer's return thrilled 588,000 viewers at 9pm (2.7%), while a second episode dipped to 405k (2.5%) at 10pm.

BBC One's MasterChef topped the ratings overall, attracting 4.9 million (22.7%) at 8pm. Vertigo Road Trip appealed to 2.0m (9.5%) at 9pm, while Match of the Day 2 scored 2.3m (21.6%) at 10.35pm.

On BBC Two, Great British Menu cooked up 1.4m (6.9%) at 7.30pm, followed by Under Offer with 1.5m (6.7%) at 8pm. Birth of an Empire intrigued 1.4m (6.5%) at 9pm.

ITV's Big Star's Little Star entertained 3.3m (15.3%) at 8pm (313k/1.4% on +1), while Billy Connolly's Big Send Off documentary was seen by 3.0m (14.1%) at 9pm (270k/1.3%).

On Channel 4, The Supervet brought in 1.5m (7.0%) at 8pm (240k/1.1%), followed by 24 Hours in A&E with 2.3m (10.9%) at 9pm (516k/3.2%). Derek continued with 972k (5.4%) at 10pm (164k/1.7%).

Channel 5's NCIS attracted 1.3m (6.0%) at 9pm (121k/0.8%). Castle appealed to 624k (3.8%) at 10pm.

On BBC Three, Orphan Black's latest episode was seen by 224k (1.3%) at 10pm.
