Death in Paradise returns to highest-ever ratings on Tuesday

Death in Paradise returned for its third series to score its highest-ever ratings on Tuesday, according to overnight figures.

Kris Marshall's first appearance on the BBC One show - replacing the outgoing Ben Miller - attracted 7.13 million (29.7%) at 9pm. This is up from the series two launch ratings of 6.86m.

On BBC Two, The Great Sport Relief Bake Off appealed to 4.39m (18.7%) at 8pm, followed by Wild Brazil with 1.93m (8.1%) at 9pm. Vic and Bob's new sitcom House of Fools amused 1.27m (6.8%) at 10pm.

ITV's Weight Loss Ward brought in 2.19m (9.4%) at 8pm (134,000/0.6% on +1), while Paul O'Grady's Animal Orphans was seen by 3.05m (12.8%) at 9pm (315k/1.9%).

On Channel 4, Location, Location, Location appealed to 1.85m (7.9%) at 8pm (287k/1.2%). The Taste tumbled by around 800k from last week to 861k (3.6%) at 9pm, while Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA attracted 926k (5.5%) at 10pm (116k/1.3%).

Channel 5's Gibraltar: Britain in the Sun entertained 996k (4.3%) at 8pm, followed by Celebrity Big Brother with 2.28m (9.5%) at 9pm (213k/1.2%) and Autopsy: Whitney Houston's Final Hours with 1.72m (10.1%) at 10pm (179k/1.9%).
