ITV charity fundraiser Text Santa leads Friday night ratings

ITV charity fundraiser Text Santa dominated Friday's (December 20) ratings outside of soaps, beating BBC One's comedy output over the course of the three-hour show.

The programme, which raised a total of £4.2m for six UK charities, featured ITV soap stars, singer Robbie Williams, prime minister David Cameron and This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

Kicking off at 8pm, the show averaged 4.68m viewers, earning a 23.5% audience share.

BBC One's flagship panel show Have I Got News For You dropped to 3.71m (17.5%) at 9pm, after leading last week with 4.68m viewers. Live At The Apollo, featuring Adam Hills, Andi Osho and Terry Alderton, attracted 2.45m (11.9%) at 9.30pm.

The channel regained the lead with The Graham Norton Show at 10.45pm. Featuring guests such as Dustin Hoffman, Billy Connolly, Jennifer Saunders and Matt Smith, it drew an audience of 3.31m (21.8%).

Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two performed well ahead of this weekend's final. The companion show pulled in an audience of 2.3m (11.5%) at 6.30pm.

University Challenge and Mastermind attracted 2.01m (9.4%) and 2.07m (9.5%) viewers respectively. Stephen Fry-hosted panel show QI managed a 1.4m audience (7.4%) at 10pm.

Christmas cooking programme Gordon Ramsay's Festive Home Cooking was watched by an audience of 930,000, while a further 117k tuned in an hour later on +1. Big Fat Gypsy Christmas secured 1.49m viewers at 9pm (+1: 220.7k).

Alan Carr: Chatty Man fell to 860,000 viewers (4.8%), down from last week's 1.02m (7.3%). A further 174.1k watched on Channel 4+1.

Stobart: Trucks, Trains and Planes was Channel 5's best-performing prime time show, attracting 77.15k viewers at 8pm (+1: 95.9k). Arnold Schwarzenegger action film Eraser followed, drawing an audience of 654.9k (+1: 51.8k).

BBC Three saw its Friday evening audience boosted by Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy at 9pm. Following the debut of the film's sequel in cinemas, 804.1k viewers (4%) tuned in to watched the first instalment.

Finally, E4's Christmas action classic Die Hard attracted just 241.6k (1.4%) at 9pm.
