Russ Abbot, Stephanie Beacham, Alison Steadman and June Whitfield are to star in a new BBC1 series called Grey Mates, which revolves around three newly retired couples.
The six-part comedy also stars Philip Jackson, James Smith and Paula Wilcox and has been penned by Richard Pinto, whose credits include Citizen Khan.
Grey Mates is being made by Hat Trick Productions and will be filmed next year.
Adam Miller will direct the comedy, with Jimmy Mulville, managing director of Hat Trick, as executive producer. Shane Allen, BBC1 comedy commissioning controller and Gregor Sharp, commissioning editor at the BBC, will also be executive producers.
Allen said: “This is a very modern, affectionate and brutally honest single camera take on a stage of life often stereotyped and outmoded in a sitcom world.”
Producer Paul Schlesinger added that the comedy focuses on characters “who don’t often take centre stage in comedy”.
