Have I Got News For You led Friday night's primetime ratings outside of soaps, drawing in 4.67m viewers.
The BBC One panel show, featuring Stephen Merchant at the helm and guest panellists Hal Cruttenden and Gabby Logan with Paul Merton and Ian Hislop, took 21.9% of the audience share at 9pm.
Piers Morgan's Life Stories with Julian Clary secured 3.7m (17.7%) in the same timeslot for ITV (+1: 281k).
Channel 4's 8 Out of 10 Cats attracted 1.19m viewers (5.6%), with an additional 167,600 tuning in on Channel 4 +1. At 8pm, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pulled in 1.37m (6.2%), with 298,600 (1.4%) watching an hour later.
Britney Spears's appearance on Alan Carr: Chatty Man secured 1.22m viewers (7.8%) on Channel 4 at 10pm (+1: 204k).
However, it was outperformed by Stephen Fry's QI on BBC Two at the same time, with 2m watching (11.1%).
BBC Two also saw a strong performance from Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two in a pre-primetime 6.30pm slot, airing to 1.91 million (10.5%)
Caught on Camera drove Channel 5's strongest performance, with 858,800 watching at 8pm - a 3.9% audience share, closely followed by Hens Behaving Badly, which caught the interest of 713,000 (3.4%) at 9pm.
