Rolf's 'Animal Clinic' rockets to series high for Channel 5

Rolf Harris's new Channel 5 show Animal Clinic rallied to a high of 1.6 million last night, early overnight data shows.

The Australian legend's first series in eight years, which premiered with 1.5m but fell to 1.1m last week, achieved an average audience of 1.56m - a 6.5% share - in its Tuesday 8pm slot as well as 125,000 on Channel 5 +1.

However, Animal Clinic was beaten by George Clarke's Amazing Spaces (1.94m/8.1%) on Channel 4 (+1: 237k), MasterChef: The Professionals (2.54m/10.6%) on BBC Two, and Holby City (4.55m/19%) on BBC One.

Nevertheless, added interest in Rolf boosted Body of Proof to 1.01m (4.3%) and 147k on +1, although it finished behind Dara O'Briain's brand new BBC Two format, Science Club (1.53m/6.5%).

Heston Blumenthal's new Channel 4 series - Heston's Fantastical Food - opened with 1.68m (7.2%) and 336k an hour later on timeshift, while The Paradise comfortably led the 9pm hour with a steady 4.61m (19.6%) for its penultimate edition.

Over on ITV1, 4.01m (17.5%) watched ITV's full Champions League football coverage of Manchester City v Ajax. The match, which ended 2-2, attracted a peak of around 5.5m at 9.15pm during the second half.

Overall, BBC One clinched another primetime win with 21.5% versus ITV1's 17.5% (+1: 0.3%). BBC Two claimed third place with 7.3%, ahead of Channel 4's 5.9% (+1: 1%), and Channel 5's 4.6% (+1: 0.4%).

Geordie Shore's fourth series launched with a decent 507k (3%) at 10pm, making the MTV reality show the fifth most-watched multichannel broadcast of the day.
