The One Show's audience figures have apparently risen since Adrian Chiles's departure.

Chiles defected from the BBC to ITV last month after a row ensued over the decision to appoint Chris Evans as the host of the Friday editions of the popular factual programme.

"This shows you the star power of Christine. A lot of people said viewers would go away when Adrian left but the opposite's happened," a source told the News of the World. "It's a quiet time of year so ratings like this are a real achievement."

One Show producers are reportedly confident of a further ratings boost following the hiring of comic Jason Manford, which was announced on Wednesday.

"He's been very popular while filling in and will develop a special relationship with Christine," the insider added.

"[Friday] is going to turn into the biggest night of the week for The One Show with real A-list guests."
