ITV has been axed Jekyll and Hyde after just a single series.
Charlie Higson's revamp of the classic horror tale will not be back for a second run.
The series fell foul of the tabloids early on in its run, amid hundreds of complaints that the first episode was too violent for its 6.30pm slot.
Later episodes were shifted to 7pm, though the fourth episode was delayed by a week in the wake of November's Paris attacks.
Starring Tom Bateman as the grandson of the original Dr Jekyll / Edward Hyde, the show launched to an impressive 4.3m in October.
However, the final episode attracted a series low of 1.8m - with the series average landing at just 2.6m viewers.
Higson confirmed the cancellation on Twitter, noting that while some "great stories" were planned for series two, he is "moving on" to new projects.
Some pre-production work - including location scouting - had already been undertaken by the Jekyll and Hyde team in anticipation of a recommission.
