EastEnders watched by 5.5m despite clash with England game

EastEnders topped a low-rating evening for the soaps on Friday (March 27), overnight figures show.

The Walford drama dipped against ITV's coverage of the England vs. Lithuania game but did hold up reasonably well, bringing in 5.52m (25.2%) at 8pm on BBC One as Sharon and Ian clashed over Denny and Phil returned to Albert Square. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 394k (3.2%) at 10.40pm.

Emmerdale also suffered due to its early start in the schedule, claiming 4.73m (26.7%) at 6.45pm on ITV and 255k (1.3%) on +1 as Adam proposed to Victoria - the show's lowest rating of the year so far.

Hollyoaks attracted 725k (4.2%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Diane discovered the truth about the baby swap, while E4's first look followed with 520k (3.0%) at 7pm and 158k (0.7%) on +1.

Neighbours entertained 537k (8.6%) at 1.45pm and 743k (5.5%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Tyler faced another predicament thanks to his involvement with Dimato.

Home and Away mustered 256k (4.0%) at 1.15pm and 572k (3.5%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 331k (1.9%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the final episode of Doctors before the show's Easter break was seen by 1.39m (22.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
