The Apprentice final attracts 6.1 million, up from last year

The Apprentice easily topped the ratings on Sunday evening, overnight data reveals.

The 2014 two-hour final averaged 6.18 million viewers (27.0%) at 9pm. The show peaked with 7.49m (30.0%) at around 9.45pm, at the time of Lord Alan Sugar's winner announcement.

This is up by over 400,000 from the 2013 final's average overnight score. However, last year's final aired on a Wednesday night in June. It is also higher than 2012's overnight rating of 5.98m.

Earlier, Countryfile appealed to 5.59m (25.8%) at 7pm, followed by Antiques Roadshow with 5.38m (22.0%) at 8pm.

On BBC Two, romantic comedy Salmon Fishing in the Yemen brought in 1.57m (6.3%) at 8pm.

ITV's archive show You've Got to Love Christmas entertained 2.10m (9.8%) at 7pm (146k/0.6% on +1). Surprise, Surprise gathered 3.44m (13.1%) at 8pm (205k/0.8%), while a Midsomer Murders repeat was seen by 2.56m (11.2%) at 9pm (152k/1.0%).

On Channel 4, Men in Black 3 thrilled 3.24m (14.1%) at 7pm (923k/3.7%), followed by the latest Homeland with 1.30m (5.1%) at 9pm (132k/0.6%).

Channel 5's broadcast of Clint Eastwood thriller Gran Torino interested 1.61m (7.2%) at 9pm (179k/1.2%).
