The Fall returns with over 2.4 million on Thursday night

The Fall returned to BBC Two with just under 2.5 million viewers on Thursday, overnight data reveals.

The Gillian Anderson drama brought in 2.48m (11.8%) at 9pm, which is down by over 1m viewers from last year's opener and finale - which both attracted around 3.5m in the spring.

Earlier, It Takes Two entertained 1.88m (10.0%) at 6.30pm, followed by The Great Interior Design Challenge with 1.62m (8.1%) at 7pm and MasterChef: The Professionals with 2.68m (12.1%) at 8pm. Russell Howard's Good News amused 870k (5.1%) at 10pm.

On BBC One, Watchdog appealed to 3.77m (17.0%) at 8pm, while David Attenborough's Life Story amazed 3.16m (15.0%) at 9pm. Question Time brought in 2.26m (20.7%) at 10.35pm.

ITV's For the Love of Dogs topped the night outside soaps again with 4.04m (18.0%) at 8.30pm (128,000/0.6% on +1), followed by the Neil Diamond special with 2.83m (13.8%) at 9pm (247k/1.7%).

On Channel 4, Amazing Spaces attracted 1.33m (6.0%) at 8pm (214k/1.0%), while 24 Hours in A&E continued with 1.83m (8.7%) at 9pm (321k/2.1%). Babylon debuted its first full series with 598k (3.9%) at 10pm.

Channel 5's Underground Britain interested 656k (3.0%) at 8pm, followed by Caught on Camera with 738k (3.5%) at 9pm (113k/0.7%) and House of Horrors with 768k (4.9%) at 10pm (125k/1.4%).

On E4, The Big Bang Theory tickled 1.41m (6.3%) at 8.30pm (340k/1.6%), while Drifters gathered 331k (1.6%) at 9pm (105k/0.6%).

Sky1's latest episode of Arrow was seen by 344k (1.6%) at 8pm, followed by Forever with 271k (1.3%) at 9pm.
