Peaky Blinders returns with 1.6 million on Thursday

Peaky Blinders was slightly up on its last episode upon its return on Thursday, overnight data reveals.

The BBC Two period drama attracted an average audience of 1.69 million viewers (8.3%) at 9pm. This is up by around 50,000 viewers from its series one finale, but down over 700,000 from its premiere last September.

Billy Connolly's appearance on Who Do You Think You Are? topped the ratings overall outside soaps with 4.77m (23.3%) at 9pm on BBC One.

Earlier, Your Home in their Hands appealed to 2.61m (13.1%) at 8pm, while Question Time interested 2.27m (21.8%) at 10.35pm.

On BBC Two, Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two entertained 1.18m (7.1%) at 6.30pm, followed by Antiques Road Trip with 1.59m (8.7%) at 7pm and Judge Atlantis with 1.29m (6.4%) at 8pm. Mock the Week amused 1.43m (8.5%) at 10pm.

ITV's For the Love of Dogs gathered 4.10m (8.4%) at 8.30pm (246k/1.2% on +1), while Blenheim Palace: Great War House brought in 1.42m (6.9%) at 9pm (148k/1.0%).

On Channel 4, Location, Location, Location attracted 1.48m (7.4%) at 8pm (210k/1.0%), followed by Educating the East End with 1.33m (6.5%) at 9pm (128k/0.9%). Scrotal Recall debuted with 636k (3.8%) at 10pm.

Channel 5's Benefit House: Me & My 22 Kids intrigued 907k (4.5%) at 8pm (116k/0.6%). No Foreigners Here: 100% British gathered 782k (3.8%) at 9pm, and Mummy's Little Murderer brought in 656k (4.4%) at 10pm.

On ITV2, Celebrity Juice tickled 840k (5.4%) at 10pm (149k/1.7%).
