MasterChef returns to 4.3 million on BBC One

MasterChef returned for its tenth series to top the ratings outside of soaps on Wednesday, according to overnight data.

The cooking series attracted 4.33 million (19.4%) at 9pm on BBC One, which is around 100,000 more than last year's series opener.

Earlier, Holiday Hit Squad brought in 3.50m (16.4%) at 8pm, while A Question of Sport quizzed 2.16m (16.9%) at 10.35pm.

On ITV, Law & Order: UK bounced back by over a million viewers, appealing to 4.11m (18.1%) at 9pm (279k/1.8% on +1). Big Star's Little Star returned for a new series with 4.03m (18.8%) at 8pm (205k/0.9%).

BBC Two's Lambing Live interested 1.98m (9.3%) at 8pm, followed by The Greatest Knight with 1.17m (5.2%) at 9pm and the second episode of W1A, which dipped over 300k to 1.26m (7.0%) at 10pm.

On Channel 4, Secret Eaters gathered 925k (4.3%) at 8pm (207k/0.9%). Documentary Dead Famous DNA fascinated 808k (3.6%) at 9pm (164k/1.0%), and First Dates brought in 757k (4.6%) at 10pm (196k/2.4%).

Channel 5's Killing Spree debuted with 1.08m (5.1%) at 8pm, followed by the latest NCIS with 1.00m (4.5%) at 9pm (137k/0.9%) and Castle with 539k (3.3%) at 10pm.

On BBC Three, documentary Kris: Dying to Live was seen by 403k (1.8%) at 9pm.

ITV2's The Only Way Is Essex entertained 744k (4.5%) at 10pm (158k/1.9%).
