Midsomer Murders tops Wednesday ratings with 5.1 million

Midsomer Murders was the most-watched show on Wednesday evening, according to overnight figures.

ITV's crime drama attracted 5.08 million (21.0%) at 8pm, with an added 357,000 (1.7%) on +1. This is up from Christmas Eve's 3.66m ratings, but down from its last regular episode in January 2013, which was seen by 5.64m.

On BBC One, The One Show entertained 4.63m (20.8%) at 7pm, while Live at the Apollo amused 2.23m (9.6%) at 9.30pm.

BBC Two's Stargazing Live continued with 2.43m (10.0%) at 8pm, followed by Back to Earth with 1.94m (7.8%) at 9pm. Fergal Keane's Hidden World of Britain's Immigrants was seen by 1.50m (6.9%) at 10pm.

On Channel 4, Restoration Man appealed to 1.68m (6.9%) at 8pm (216k/0.9% on +1). 24 Hours in A&E interested 2.29m (9.6%) at 9pm (281k/1.6%). A repeat of Benefits Street was seen by 1.43m (8.3%) at 10pm (278k/3.2%).

Channel 5's Bigger Body Squad brought in 803k (3.3%) at 8pm. Celebrity Big Brother's live fake eviction entertained 2.40m (10.6%) at 9pm (225k/1.5%), while Hens Behaving Badly was seen by 852k (6.8%) at 10pm.

On E4, the first episode of The Tomorrow People attracted 1.08m (4.5%) at 9pm (291k/1.7%).
