Whitechapel attracted over 3 million viewers for its latest series on ITV, according to overnight data.
The drama's fourth series premiere was seen by 3.76m (17.4%) at 9pm (297,000/1.9% on +1). However, this is a large drop from the show's previous season premiere rating of 7.32m in 2012, and 5.89m for its last episode.
Earlier, Stephen Mulhern's new series Big Star's Little Star entertained 4.15m (19.6%) at 8pm (312k/1.4%).
On BBC One, Celebrity MasterChef topped the ratings outside of soaps with 5.26m (24.9%) at 8pm. Nitin Ganatra's turn on Who Do You Think You Are? interested 3.94m (18.3%) at 9pm.
BBC Two's Flog It! returned to 1.04m (6.0%) at 6.30pm, while the Hairy Bikers' new series Meals of Wheels Back on the Road also appealed to 1.04m (4.9%) at 8pm.
Channel 4's How Not To Get Old brought in 795k (3.8%) at 8pm (110k/0.5%). Grand Designs returned for a new series with 2.25m (10.4%) at 9pm (350k/2.2%). The Last Leg amused 923k (5.6%) at 10pm (108k/1.2%).
On Channel 5, Celebrity Big Brother's live eviction was seen by 1.96m (9.1%) at 9pm (254k/1.6%). A second show attracted 1.33m (13.3%) at 11pm. The latest Wentworth episode was watched by 1.25m (7.9%) at 10pm (109k/1.3%).
