'One Born Every Minute' trumps Celebrity Big Brother

One Born Every Minute overtook Celebrity Big Brother in the ratings on Wednesday night (January 16), early overnight data shows.

The BAFTA-winning documentary series climbed to 2.16 million (8.5%) in the 9pm hour, slightly edging Big Brother by a hundred thousand viewers in the 9pm hour.

However, the Channel 5 reality show averaged 2.1m (8.8%) in its full 90-minute slot between 9pm and 10.30pm, adding 152,000 on +1. One Born Every Minute appealed to a further 247k on Channel 4 +1.

By 9.45pm the programme was leading One Born Every Minute as Lacey Banghard was evicted from the house.

Gok's Fashion Secrets pulled in 1.34m (5.6%) in the 8pm slot, helping Channel 4 to achieve another victory over the Richard Desmond network, which had 899k (3.7%) for Charlie Boorman's South African Adventure.

Meanwhile, BBC Two's Winterwatch continued to impress with 2.69m (11.1%), but the channel's audience then nosedived to 765k (3%) for 9pm's stand-up documentary Funny Business.

David Attenborough's Africa rebounded to 5.95m (23.5%) for BBC One at 9pm, prior to which Food Inspectors interested 3.93m (16.3%).

Over on ITV, football coverage of Manchester United's FA Cup replay win over West Ham scored 5.14m (21.2%) between 8pm and 10.15pm.

Thanks in large part to the soaps, ITV led primetime with 23% (+1: 0.5%) above BBC One's 20.6%. BBC Two pipped Channel 4 into third place with 6.1% versus 5.8% (+1: 0.8%), with 5 hot on their heels with 5.5% (+1: 0.3%).
