Friday's third series opener, which saw Ricky Gervais send Warwick Davis to join Pilkington, amused 923,000 and a 3.7% share for Sky1.

Although topping the multichannel ratings, An Idiot Abroad's numbers are 400k short of last year's first episode.

However, this year's figures are slightly higher than 2010's series launch.

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! reigned victorious in the terrestrial ratings with 9.13m (41.6%), with the penultimate edition of the ITV jungle reality show adding 345k on +1.

Then ITV2's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! NOW! delivered 806k (5.4%) to ITV2 (+1: 112k).

Over on BBC One, Have I Got News For You managed 4.08m (16.3%) at 9pm, after which John Bishop's Big Year nabbed 3.09m (12.5%).

BBC Two's best audiences came in the 8pm hour with Mastermind (2.12m/9.5%) and An Island Parish (2.09m/9%). Attenborough: 60 Years in the Wild had 1.64m (6.6%) at 9pm.

At the same time as Attenborough, comedian Lee Evans attracted 604k (2.5%) to Channel 4 (+1: 293k), and The Mentalist pulled in 998k (4%) for Channel 5.

Finally, Alan Carr's Chatty Man entertained 914k (5.2%) on Channel 4 and 218k on timeshift, while QI educated 1.71m (6.6%).

Overall, ITV1 conquered BBC One in primetime with 32% (+1: 0.7%) against 17.2%. BBC Two earned third spot with 7.3%, beating Channel 4's 3.2% (+1: 0.7%), and Channel 5's 2.6% (+1: 0.3%).
