Ratings: 'Parade's End' sheds nearly 1m viewers on Friday

Benedict Cumberbatch drama Parade's End lost a significant chunk of its audience yesterday (Friday), the latest overnight data shows.

The BBC Two period piece's second episode averaged 2.18m (9.8%), slipping 950k on last week's strong premiere rating.

Mastermind (1.72m/7.8%) and Gardeners' World (2.12m/9.7%) aired in the 8pm hour.

Celebrity Big Brother improved to 2.08m (9.6%) for Channel 5 from 9pm until 10.30pm, then 1.11m (7.5%) stayed for Emma Willis's Bit on the Side and Spencer Matthews's The Bachelor entertained 715k (8.3%).

Channel 4's coverage of the Paralympic Games had 2.11m (10.4%) between 7.30pm and 11.15pm, while ITV1's football coverage of Chelsea's Super Cup defeat to Athletico Madrid scored 2.13m (9.9%).

Over on BBC One, Miranda soared to 4.06m (18.7%) at 8.30pm, despite being a repeat. In with the Flynns benefited from the increased lead-in, rallying to 3.01m (13.7%) at 9pm, after which 4.44m (20%) caught an old edition of Mrs Brown's Boys.

Overall, BBC One topped primetime with 19.9%, ahead of ITV1's 11.1% (+1: 0.3%). Channel 4 earned third place with 9.8%, above BBC Two's 7.5%, and Channel 5's 6.1% (+1: 0.1%).

More4 continued to benefit from an hour of Paralympics coverage, netting 612k (3.3%) between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
