The much anticipated move was confirmed by Discovery on WednesdayFull details and timings are to be confirmed, but Home - the channel once known as UKTV Style - is to be replaced with a UK version of Home and Garden TV (HGTV), according to Discovery's Kathleen Finch, speaking at an event in London in comments first picked up by The Hollywood Reporter - confirming what many had long suspected as the US media giant seeks to incorporate its three new channels with its existing portfolio of channels.
It's the first major move announced by Discovery since acquiring UKTV channels Home, Really and Good Food two weeks ago as part of a deal with BBC Studios.
The launch of HGTV is part of a wider European roll-out of the channel: a German free-to-air version already launched earlier this month.
Home was moved to Freeview channel 42 earlier in June as part of a reshuffle of Discovery's channels on Freeview. The channel is also broadcast free-to-air on satellite and is included in Virgin Media's channel line-up.
