Life in Squares opens to an audience of 1.85m on Monday

BBC Two's Bloomsbury Set drama Life in Squares opened with an audience of just under 2m last night (July 27), according to overnight data.

The three-part series - starring Lydia Leonard as Virginia Woolf alongside James Norton and Phoebe Fox - debuted to 1.85m (9.3%) at 9pm.

Earlier in the evening, University Challenge brought in 2.66m (12.4%) for the channel at 8pm - the highest-rated primetime programme outside of soaps - with 2.2m (10.4%) for Only Connect at 8.30pm. The latest episode of reality TV competition Hair screened to 644k (3.9%) at 10pm.

Elsewhere, ITV's police documentary Rookies ended with an audience of 2.65m (13.4%) last night at 9pm, with 2.38m (11.1%) tuning in for Vet School at 8pm.

On BBC One, The Housing Enforcers led the night outside of soaps with 3.43m (17.6%) at 7pm, followed by 2.03m (9.5%) for Panorama at 8pm. At 9pm, Britain at the Bookies was down slightly on last week with 2.11m (10.6%).

Channel 4's highest-rated programme in primetime was Food Unwrapped with 1.35m (6.3%) at 8pm. 24 Hours in Police Custody aired to 1.32m (6.6%) at 9pm, while How to Get a Council House continued with 900k (6.1%) at 10pm.

Ben Fogle's documentary New Lives in the Wild had a strong debut on Channel 5 with 1.78m (9%) at 9pm, preceded by Stop! Roadworks Ahead at 8pm with 798k (3.7%).
