The Big Bang Theory returns with over 2m viewers on Thursday

The Big Bang Theory returned with impressive ratings for E4 on Thursday (October 23), overnight data has revealed.

The US sitcom amused an average 1.65 million viewers (7.7%) at 8.30pm, with an added 441,000 (2.1%) on +1. Drifters also returned for a second series with 421k (2.0%) at 9pm (161k/0.9% on +1).

BBC One's new Sir David Attenborough series Life Story topped the night overall outside soaps with 4.41m (21.2%) at 9pm.

Earlier, Watchdog appealed to 3.04m (14.3%) at 8pm, and Question Time brought in 2.49m (23.2%) at 10.35pm.

On BBC Two, Strictly's It Takes Two entertained 1.55m (8.4%) at 6.30pm, followed by Big Dreams Small Spaces with 1.35m (6.9%) at 7pm.

The Children in Need Sewing Bee gathered 1.66m (7.8%) at 8pm, while the latest Peaky Blinders thrilled 1.41m (6.8%) at 9pm.

Russell Howard's Good News returned for a new series on its new channel with 1.27m (7.4%) at 10pm.

On ITV, For the Love of Dogs attracted 4.20m (19.5%) at 8.30pm (153k/0.7%), followed by the second episode of The Great Fire with 2.62m (12.6%) at 9pm (262k/1.7%).

Channel 4's Amazing Spaces was seen by 1.45m (6.8%) at 8pm (254k/1.2%), while Educating the East End attracted 1.11m (5.3%) at 9pm (136k/0.9%). Scrotal Recall brought in 445k (2.6%) at 10pm.

On Channel 5, Underground Britain attracted 888k (4.2%) at 8pm, followed by Burglars & Breakins with 757k (3.6%) at 9pm and Inside Holloway with 905k (5.9%) at 10pm.

ITV2's Celebrity Juice entertained 910k (5.7%) at 10pm (159k/1.7%).
