Bradley Walsh (DS Ronnie Brooks) has quit the crime drama, with ITV placing the series on indefinite hiatus as a result.

"There may well come a time when we revisit Law & Order: UK," said ITV's director of drama commissioning Steve November. "For the moment we'll be resting the series whilst we continue to refresh our drama slate."

Walsh has played veteran cop Brooks across eight series since 2009 and is Law & Order: UK's only remaining original cast member.

"Ronnie Brooks is one of my best friends," he said. "It's been an absolute pleasure to inhabit Ronnie's Mac for as long as I have. Eight series is a wonderful achievement for everyone involved in the production.

"This has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. I hope one day to revisit him, but for now I'd like the opportunity to pursue other drama projects which ITV are developing."

Law & Order: UK was originally due to conclude its eighth series on April 30, but episode 'Repeat to Fade' was pulled from the schedules due to similarities between the episode's plot and the real-life stabbing of a schoolteacher.

The de facto series finale will now air on Wednesday, June 11 at 9pm on ITV.
