The sci-fi series has been a huge ratings success in America, with its total of 13.3m viewers making it the most successful debut scripted series in over three years.

Revolution is an adventure thriller from Eric Kripke (Supernatural) and Abrams (Lost, Fringe), which focuses on a post-apocalyptic America that has mysteriously lost all electrical power.

The show stars Tracy Spiridakos, Graham Rogers and Twilight actor Billy Burke as a family who attempt to reunite in this treacherous new world.

Sarah Wright, controller of acquisitions at Sky Entertainment, commented: "We're thrilled to be partnering with Warner Bros on this latest project from JJ Abrams.

"Our customers have always had a strong connection with JJ Abrams's event series, and we're confident that Revolution will prove to be a monster hit with them following its record-breaking debut in the US."

The first ten episodes of Revolution have already aired in the US, and the show is on a four-month hiatus before returning to NBC in March.

Co-creator Kripke has said he hopes the hiatus "won't lose the show viewers", while NBC chief Robert Greenblatt has conceded that the break may result in a ratings drop for the network.

Revolution will air on Sky1 and Sky1 HD in 2013.

Ignore the hype. I've already seen the American broadcast and gave up after six episodes when it was clear the series was going nowhere. Beats me how I managed to stick it even that long?
