Coventry boxer Neil “Simmo” Simpson is aiming for a knockout win on TV’s Deal Or No Deal.



Neil won the British and Commonwealth light-heavyweight titles at the Skydome, but is now aiming to take home the top cash prize on the Channel 4 gameshow.

The city hero’s opponent this time around is the show’s infamous penny-pinching Banker.

Will it be a knockout or will Neil be out for the punch?

The city champ could win up to £250,000 if he makes the right choices in the TV hit hosted by Noel Edmonds.

He is one of 22 hopefuls currently appearing on the nail-biting game show.

They each have a box containing a secret amount of money.

However, only one lucky person is picked each day to play for the big prize.

“They can win anything from 1p to £250,000 ... if they choose the right box.

But the unseen opponent, the Banker, can offer the player cash to buy their box back forcing them to decide whether to go for the money or risk holding on for a bigger prize.

Neil is currently waiting for his chance to take the TV spotlight and swap the boxing ring for the gameshow arena.

The daytime show is one of Channel 4’s major hits and attracts up to six million viewers every day.

Several contestants have walked away with the top prize since the show started back in 2005.

The programme will also air its first live shows next month. Deal Or No Deal Live begins on October 10 and will see 12 hour-long live episodes over two weeks.

In a new twist to the show, contestants do not know yet know that they will be playing the game.

Presenter Noel will be making his way around the country and knocking on doors to surprise the contestants.

Channel 4 head of daytime, Helen Warner, said: “It’s hugely exciting to be doing Deal Or No Deal live for the first time and Noel is the only presenter I can imagine being able to cope with something of this scale and ambition. I think the viewers will love it.”
