Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

iPad game for cats unveiled by pet food company [video]

Postby dutchman » Wed Mar 14, 2012 8:27 pm

Cat food producer Friskies has unveiled what it claims to be the first iPad app that allows owners to play directly against their feline pet.

Image

You vs Cat is an arcade style game that revolves around the owner attempting to flick food towards a goal, reports ABC News. The cat must then bat the food away with its paw.

The app was shown off at the event by feline Buddy the Cat. Owner Trisha Seifried claimed that the 9-month-old cat found the game easy to pick up and play.

You vs Cat will be available as a free download from Apple's App Store later this week.

Cat is found and returned to owner after 15 years missing

A cat has been reunited with its owner after he was presumed forever lost 15 years ago.

The ginger tom was discovered in woods 30km (19 miles) from the city of Munich.

The sanctuary who found the stray cat identified him as Poldi from a number tattooed on his ear. He was reported missing in 1996.

Poldi was found by Kilian Schoettel sitting on a log near the village of Aying, reports the Muenchener Abendzeitung.

"My son immediately noticed that the animal was quite old. He felt sorry for it because it no longer had any front teeth," Kilian's father Bernhard Schoettel said.

"The tom was very trusting. We fed him for a few days and discovered that he was tattooed, so we took him to the animal sanctuary over the weekend."

The animal sanctuary's Eveline Kosenbach said that she was able to locate the original owner's details via their database.

"The lady simply no longer had any hope of Poldi turning up again," Kosenbach said.

She added that the owner believed Poldi ran away as he did not get on with her other pet cat.

Puss named after lazy comic strip feline Garfield is biggest in the world at nearly 40lbs

Image

Just days ago, a ginger Tom named Sponge Bob was labelled the world fattest cat, weighing in at an unbelievable 33lb.

Now another overweight puss has claimed the dubious honour, with New York-dwelling Garfield tipping the scales at nearly 40lbs.

Garfield loves nothing better than lying around and eating whatever food he can find - exactly like his lazy cartoon character namesake.

The full-figured feline was brought into North Shore Animal League of America in Port Washington, Long Island, after his owner died.

Staff put him on a low-calorie diet, cutting out all dry food in an effort to emulate Sponge Bob's success in losing 3lbs just a few months.

They hope Garfield can lose around 2lbs a month, and are looking for a new owner who is committed to helping him become healthy and active.

North Shore veterinarian Gerard Leheney said: 'This is the fattest cat I have ever seen. My first reaction was astonishment.'

Garfield is relatively healthy but finds it difficult to move because his weight is putting strain on his hips.

The shelter has warned that obesity in cats is extremely risky and can lead to diabetes, heart disease, joint, bone and ligament damage, high blood pressure and intolerance to heat.

Staff are trying to make 39.75lb Garfield more active by encouraging him to play with toys and a ball, and by picking him up and putting him down somewhere else, so he has to walk back to his original spot.

Garfield will soon be given over to a foster carer, while staff attempt to trace any next of kin to his former owner.

If no-one is found, he will be put up for adoption and given to a loving family who can spend time playing with him in their home, and keeping him on a low-calorie diet.

Kitten recovering after surviving 6,500-mile journey across Pacific

Image

A kitten is recovering in California after surviving a 6,500-mile journey across the Pacific stowed away inside a Chinese shipping container.

Ni Hao, a ginger and white kitten, was discovered breathing shallowly in a limp ball after a two-week trip across the Pacific Ocean.

The three-month-old feline was severely dehydrated and suffering from starvation when the container from Shanghai was opened in California last week, but was said to be doing well after being transferred to the Carson Animal Care Center in Los Angeles.

At first he was too weak to stand, but the short-haired kitten is finally taking its first steps.

"Ni Hao greeted the medical team with his first miaow this morning and is attempting to stand," said Marcia Mayeda, head of the Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control.

Aaron Reyes, deputy director of the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control, added: “We finally got to hear his voice. It sounds like a sputtering single-engine plane."

Ni Hao, which means Hello in Mandarin, is expected to remain in quarantine for 60 days but afterwards animal workers will look to placing him with a foster family.

“It’s much better for him to recover in a home environment,” Mr Reyes said. “It’s just like a human being in a hospital so we’re hoping to move him.”

He added: "Little by little we're getting there. We're hoping that under the treatment of our med team and with rest, he'll be able to continue to recover quickly."

It was not immediately clear how the kitten got into the container.
