An exclusive drive-in cinema showing Coventry classics is coming to the city next week.

The cinema will air newly released films that celebrate the unique stories and pioneering spirit of the city.

Two BBC Four documentaries, Classic British Cars: Made in Coventry and Coventry Cathedral: Building for a New Britain will be screened right in the heart of Coventry city centre on Wednesday and Thursday, August 4 and 5.

Tickets are free and you have a strong chance of getting them if you live within a Coventry postcode.

The films will be screened at Millennium Place, just outside Coventry Transport Museum.

The event is taking place as part of Coventry's 'summer of surprises' which is being put on by the City of Culture Trust.

Classic British Cars: Made in Coventry’ is a Testimony Films production for BBC Four and documents the rise, fall and rebirth of the motor industry in Coventry and features rare archive films and photographs. Coventry-born motoring journalist Mark Evans shares the story of the classic cars made in Coventry, from the Daimler to the Triumph and from the Riley to the Jaguar, meeting some great characters on the way.

‘Coventry Cathedral: Building for a New Britain’ was made by Illuminations for BBC Four, and documents how in 1940 German bombers destroyed much of the city centre of Coventry and reduced the city’s medieval cathedral to rubble. This film tells the story of the new cathedral, consecrated on the same site in May 1962 and incorporating the ruins of the old building.

Tickets will be allocated by random draw, with 80% of the tickets going to Coventry postcodes* and 20% going to the rest of the UK.

You can register at any time until 11.55pm on Tuesday 27 July.

You can apply for a maximum of one ticket per household, which will admit one car. If you apply for more than one screening you will be allocated tickets for a maximum of one screening and these tickets will be non-transferable.
