Charges have been dropped against a woman accused with taping parts of New Moon at a US cinema.

Cook County prosecutors in Chicago said that they won't pursue charges against 22-year-old Samantha Tumpach, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She was arrested at a theatre in Rosemont, Chicago on November 28 after allegedly videotaping three minutes of the Twilight sequel.

Tumpach claimed that she was taping her sister's birthday celebration at the cinema, which included film previews, adverts and a couple of short movie scenes. She insisted that it was "never her intention" to pirate the film.

New Moon director Chris Weitz recently defended Tumpach, saying, "There is, needless to say, a difference between trying to protect the copyright of a film and making an unfair example of someone who clearly seems not to have any intentions towards video piracy."
