The Interview given February UK cinema release date

The Interview will be released in UK cinemas on February 6.

The controversial film starring James Franco and Seth Rogen received an online release late last month, and was shown in selected US cinemas in the wake of threats from The Guardians of Peace hacking group.

Empire reports that Sony has now confirmed that the film, directed by Rogen and Evan Goldberg will receive a UK release next month.

"Sony just confirmed with us that The Interview will be released in the UK on February 6, only in cinemas," the magazine tweeted.

Figures showed that the movie had been downloaded more than the two million times in its first four days of release, making $15m in digital downloads. The Interview has now become Sony Pictures' highest-grossing online release.

Meanwhile, the film has made the shortlist for a number of Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Screen Combo (James Franco and either Seth Rogen or Randall Park) and Worst Actor (both Franco and Rogen).
