'Alice' makes magic at US box office

Alice In Wonderland has debuted at the top of the US box office with $116 million over the weekend.

Tim Burton's 3D fantasy adventure, starring Johnny Depp, not only dominated domestically but worldwide, with an estimated $210 million. The film is slated to become the highest-grossing first quarter opener, as well as the all-time highest three-day, non-holiday for a non-sequel film in the US.

The second debut this week comes from Brooklyn's Finest, starring Wesley Snipes and Ethan Hawke, at number two with $13.5 million.

Leonardo DiCaprio's Shutter Island slips from the top spot to number three with $13.3 million.

Valentine's Day surpasses the $100 million mark after four weeks in release. The rom-com landed at number eight with $4.2 million.

Jeff Bridges's Crazy Heart takes the ninth spot, while Dear John lands at number ten.
