Hugh Jackman's 'Prisoners' beats 'Rush' at UK box office

Hugh Jackman's Prisoners has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

The thriller, co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Terrence Howard, earned £1.3 million to send last week's chart-topper Rush into second place.

Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine, which stars Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin, debuts in third place with £833,798. In fourth spot is Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck's Runner Runner, while Insidious: Chapter 2 completes the top five.

Elsewhere Monsters University re-entered the top ten, moving up five places from number 15 with £271,863.

James McAvoy's Filth has charted at number 12 after opening in Scotland over the weekend. It will release across cinemas in the rest of the UK this Friday.
