'Avatar' dominates US box office

Avatar has remained at the top of the US box office with $75 million over the holiday weekend.

The sci-fi adventure, starring Sam Worthington, has taken in more than $212 million just two weeks after release.

Debuting strongly are Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes at number two with $65.3 million, Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel at number three with $50.2 million and the Meryl Streep rom-com It's Complicated at number four with $22.1 million.

Moving up three spots is Jason Reitman's Up In The Air at number five, while Rob Marshall's musical Nine makes the biggest jump on the countdown, landing at number eight from its previous position at 20.

Claiming the tenth spot is Clint Eastwood's drama Invictus, starring Matt Damon, with $4.3 million.
