Nuneaton Christmas film 'The Carolers' to hit America

A festive film made in Nuneaton is to make its way to America after having its hometown premiere. For four nights last year Hollywood came to town when film crews took over streets and homes in the St Nicolas Park and Horeston Grange area of town.

They were filming for The Carolers, a new short festive film which was based around Phil Coates' childhood memories of Christmas in his hometown of Nuneaton. Now the film has had its premiere, poignantly at the Abbey Theatre.

This was especially important for the production, having come full circle from being created in Nuneaton, edited in LA and then shown for the first time back in the town. It was fitting for the film, which has been described as a real 'community driven' project.

From people giving up their homes, putting up their Christmas decorations early to making cups of tea for the cast and crew, locals got behind the short festive film. Many of them were invited to the premiere - which saw two screenings take place.

This is the only time that the film will be seen for some time locally as it is about to hit the festival circuit - both in the UK and America. Ben Coates, executive producer and whose Cande Company was part of the production, explained: "The film will now be going to film festivals in the US and Europe as well as here in the UK.

"That is why it was so important for the premiere to be held here in Nuneaton. This has been a real community driven project and it was only right that the premiere was held locally.

"We have had so much great feedback and now we are all excited about what happens next."

On the film circuit there is a chance for the film to not only receive awards but it could also be picked up to be distributed. However, there are also other irons in the fire that could see it become part of a dedicated Christmas channel.

But the ultimate dream is for it to become a Christmas classic: "Something that the whole family sits down to watch at Christmas, that would be amazing."
