Cinemas across the UK will be sold after a merger between Paramount and Skydance Media
Showcase Cinema in Coventry has been put up for sale after a major merger was completed in August. Sixteen UK locations are reportedly being sold.
Owner National Amusements went up for sale following the recently completed merger between Paramount and Skydance Media. Reports indicate the deal is worth close to £6bn.
Paramount is set to be reorganised into three areas in an effort to make the business more 'streamlined.' Studios, TV and direct-to-consumer offerings will each have their own division, it is understood.
Operators are now seeking to acquire Showcase Cinemas, which operates 816 sites across the UK, the United States, Argentina, and Brazil. Key UK sites include Derby, Glasgow, Leeds, Coventry, Dudley, Leicester, and Nottingham.
Cinemas across the UK, including on Gielgud Way in Walsgrave, are expected to be sold as part of the streamlining. Tickets for selected new releases, including After The Hunt and I Swear, were recently slashed to £4.99.
Jon Dixon, UK Marketing Director at Showcase Cinemas, said: “Saver Season is all about giving film fans the chance to experience incredible new releases at unbeatable value! From drama to comedy and maybe even a few scares, there is something for everyone.”
In a statement to CoventryLive, Showcase Cinemas said: “We are proud to be operating a strong and successful business at our Coventry site. Any future owner will be looking to build on this success and develop it further.
“We remain committed to providing customers in Coventry and beyond with a first-class cinema experience and look forward to welcoming audiences for the many exciting releases still to come this year and beyond.”
