The fifth Die Hard film has been given an R rating in the US, but was cut down following recommendations by the BBFC in order to secure a lower certificate in the UK.

"During post-production, the distributor sought and was given advice on how to secure the desired classification. Following this advice, certain changes were made prior to submission," a statement on the BBFC website explains.

The full guidance for A Good Day to Die Hard reveals that an iconic line of dialogue from John McClane (Bruce Willis) has been partially cut for the 12A rating.

"The film contains four uses of strong language ('f**k') and a partial use of 'motherf**ker', the end of which has been cut short so the implied strong language is not heard in full."

Other warnings are included for "a backdrop of explosions, car chases and the destruction of property", "scenes of gun threat to the head" and "some mild innuendo".
