Casualty did not air its latest episode as planned this weekend, as the BBC pulled Saturday's new episode from the schedules due to tragic real-life events.

The news was confirmed by the drama's Instagram account, which shared a post on Saturday (October 16) evening reading: "To our Casualty fans, in light of recent events we will no longer broadcast our episode 'Two Tribes' tonight. We look forward to seeing you next week."

The cancellation came after the death of Conservative MP Sir David Amess on Friday (October 15), who died after being stabbed multiple times while hosting a regular constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.

The episode of Casualty which had been due to air features a stabbing as part of a gang violence storyline involving doctor Rash Masum (Neet Mohan).

Rash recently reunited with Hafsa, the sister of his former best friend Sam, and the ongoing storyline will see Hafsa bring a troubled kid named Rayan to Rash's door. After the pair bond, Rayan heads out and is stabbed by Kyle from the Farmstead gang.

Rash brings him to the emergency department, pretending that Rayan is a random guy he found on the street, and he later pledges his medical assistance to Hafsa, promising to help if anyone else gets hurt while she is apparently working undercover with the gangs.

Casualty is not the only show that has been removed from the schedules over the past few days, with the BBC having also pulled Friday's episodes of topical panel show Have I Got News for You and sitcom The Cleaner, which follows a cleaning technician who works on crime scenes.

Casualty airs on Saturdays on BBC One.
