Emmerdale will remain on air uninterrupted after the soap's recent return to filming, ITV has confirmed today.

The Yorkshire-based soap recently confirmed a phased return to filming with a very stripped-back cast and crew, with the new episodes being filmed in line with recently published health and safety guidelines issued to TV productions to help them resume filming safely.

In a change to the schedules Emmerdale will be altering its transmission pattern temporarily, dropping down to two episodes per week from the week beginning June 8.

The episodes it airs then will be those which are currently being filmed featuring a range of characters in lockdown.

Each lockdown episode will be a two or three-hander focusing on particular pairings or character groups, with thirteen cast members featuring in total.

The episodes will focus on the likes of Cain and Aaron Dingle (Jeff Hordley and Danny Miller), Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirk (Lucy Pargeter and Dominic Brunt) and Jimmy and Nicola King (Nick Miles and Nicola Wheeler), and will show us how the villagers have been coping at home and how the pandemic has affected their lives.

Episodes will air on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm on ITV for three weeks, before the soap then resumes its current three episode per week pattern.

Actor Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle, was also on set filming this week and praised the show's crew for creating a safe working environment, writing on Twitter: "The team's done a truly jaw-dropping job of keeping everyone safe.Blimey, but I've missed it!"

The soap has put special measures in place to ensure that scenes are blocked so that everyone can stay two metres apart and that only a small number of actors are needed on set at any one time.

Emmerdale currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm on ITV.
