Helen George will be taking a break from Call the Midwife series seven because, after delivering babies on screen, she's gone and had one of her own in real life.

The star, who plays Nurse Trixie Franklin in the hit BBC One show, welcomed a child with co-star Jack Ashton in October.

The production staff hid George's pregnancy for most of the series using clipboards and capes, and later gave her some time off after she gave birth.

Creator Heidi Thomas said at a London screening (via RadioTimes) that "Helen was able to graciously retire – she just had a couple of episodes off."

The details surrounding how Trixie will be written out for these few episodes have not been revealed yet, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Three series regulars have departed the show ahead of series seven — Bryony Hannah, Emerald Fennell and Kate Lamb, who played nurses Patsy Mount and Delia Busby, and nun Cynthia Miller respectively.

"We are always sad when actors want to move on to pastures new, as it's a wrench to let go of such beloved characters, but time and again over the years it has proved hugely exciting to bring new faces and personalities into the mix," a spokesperson said at the time.

Call the Midwife returns to BBC One on Sunday, January 21 at 8pm.
