Coronation Street has reportedly had to cover up a character's cleavage after the show began broadcasting in high definition. The News Of The World reports that Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald’s low-cut tops are even more revealing when seen on ITV1 HD, which prompted show bosses to urgently begin toning down the outfits worn by actress Beverley Callard.
"Her cleavage was bursting out of the screen in HD," a source told the paper. "Viewers would have felt like her boobs were virtually in the living room with them."
Coronation Street's head of production Claire Winnick recently spoke about the challenges the show's team faced as they prepared for the switch.
Other changes made for high definition broadcasting, which began last Monday, included the scrapping of plastic food in the shop and café and the addition of new fibreglass chimney pots.
On Friday ITV announced new broadcast dates for last week's postponed episodes of the show's Siege Week.
