EastEnders fans weren't happy to miss the soap on Monday night (June 13) - but the BBC has defended its scheduling after putting a Euro 2016 match on instead.

This week, there was no episode on Monday, Tuesday's aired at 7pm, although Thursday's and Friday's will broadcast as normal. However, there is more disruption to come as the football tournament continues.

A BBC spokesperson said: "BBC One is a mixed genre channel that broadcasts big live sporting events of national interest like the Euros 2016.

"It is sometimes necessary to move slots to accommodate live matches but EastEnders continues to be on BBC One throughout the tournament."

The BBC is broadcasting this summer's Euro 2016 alongside ITV, while BBC One's Doctors is on hiatus for three months to allow for the European Championship as well as the Rio Olympics.
