'Enders cleans up at British Soap Awards

EastEnders has pulled off an impressive triumph at the British Soap Awards 2010, picking up ten prizes on the night.


The Walford serial took top honours by emerging victorious in the 'Best Soap' category for the third consecutive year, once again beating off competition from rivals Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Doctors.

EastEnders also scooped the 'Best Single Episode' award for its live 25th anniversary instalment, while show favourites Scott Maslen (Jack Branning) and Lacey Turner (Stacey Branning) were named 'Best Actor' and 'Best Actress'. The pair both also landed another prize each as Maslen was declared 'Sexiest Male' and Turner was the winner in the 'Best Dramatic Performance' category.

Other victories for the BBC drama included the 'Best Storyline' gong for its 'Who Killed Archie?' mystery. Additionally, Archie actor Larry Lamb received an individual prize in the 'Villain Of The Year' category.

Completing the show's haul, Marc Elliott (Syed Masood) walked home with the 'Best Newcomer' accolade and it was announced that Charlie Clements had the 'Best Exit' thanks to his character Bradley Branning's dramatic death scene in February.

Coronation Street managed to triumph in three categories, with Michelle Keegan (Tina McIntyre) being named 'Sexiest Female' for the second year running, Craig Gazey (Graeme Proctor) winning the 'Best Comedy Performance' prize and Betty Driver receiving the 'Lifetime Achievement' award following 40 years in the role of barmaid Betty Williams.

BBC One's daytime drama Doctors was twice victorious as Ami Metcalf (Sapphire Cox) scooped the 'Best Dramatic Performance From A Young Actor Or Actress' honour and Jan Pearson and Chris Walker secured 'Best On-Screen Partnership' for their scenes as Karen and Rob Hollins.

Despite being nominated in every category this year, Emmerdale's only recognition went to long-serving writer Bill Lyons, who won the 'Special Achievement' award.

Channel 4's Hollyoaks also received one prize, winning 'Spectacular Scene Of The Year' for Sarah Barnes's (Loui Batley) tragic skydive death. The shock scene featured in last year's series of E4 spinoff Hollyoaks Later, which was headed up by the main soap's former boss Bryan Kirkwood - now executive producer of EastEnders.

The British Soap Awards 2010 will transmit on Wednesday, May 19 on ITV1.
