EastEnders hits a nine-month high with Dean's downfall

EastEnders hit a nine-month high in the ratings on Tuesday evening (December 29), overnight figures show.

The Walford soap aired to 6.93m (31.4%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Dean's true colours were finally revealed to all following his attempt to rape Roxy. This was the show's best figure since March, while BBC Three's repeat added 409k (2.2%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale continued with 5.66m (27.1%) at 7pm on ITV and 178k (0.8%) on +1 as Kerry involved herself in the Dingle family's current dramas.

Holby City attracted 4.23m (20.0%) at 8pm on BBC One as Serena's old flame Robbie returned to her life.

Hollyoaks interested 819k (4.1%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Patrick's scheming hit a stumbling block (+1: 46k / 0.2%), while E4's first look followed with 406k (1.9%) at 7pm and 106k (0.5%) on +1.
