Coronation Street kicked off Christmas week on top of the ratings, overnight figures show.The Weatherfield soap brought in 6.38m (30.4%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 203k (0.9%) on +1 as Rob continued to manipulate Tracy from prison, while 6.04m (26.7%) returned at 8.30pm and 260k (1.2%) on +1 as the scheming killer put the next stage of his plan into action.
EastEnders attracted 5.68m (25.2%) at 8pm on BBC One as Phil took drastic action against Vincent by snatching baby Pearl. BBC Three's repeat added 423k (2.3%) at 10pm.
Emmerdale wasn't far behind, claiming 5.6m (27.9%) at 7pm on ITV and 173k (0.8%) on +1 as Ashley continued to explain his tragic situation to Laurel.
Hollyoaks entertained 867k (4.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Ste was arrested thanks to Tony (+1: 28k / 0.1%).
Later, E4's first look Hollyoaks followed with 563k (2.8%) at 7pm as Cameron made a shocking confession to Lockie (+1: 35k / 0.2%).
