We've not even seen the fifth series yet, but Call the Midwife has had a sixth series announced.
BBC director-general Tony Hall confirmed the new run today (December 10) during a screening of the upcoming fifth run premiere.
Ahead of that, this year's Christmas special airs on Christmas Day at 7.30pm on BBC One, and is followed by eight new hour-long episodes for series five in 2016.
Series five will take place in 1961 and will start to tackle the thalidomide scandal, where thousands of babies around the world were born with deformities due to the over-the-counter drug, which was prescribed to pregnant mothers to treat morning sickness.
Call the Midwife launched in 2012 and has had one series a year since, each followed by a Christmas special. Last year's special was one of the highest-watched shows during the festive period.
