Coronation Street brings in 6.9m as Johnny targets Rob

Coronation Street topped the ratings on Wednesday (December 9) as the soap reached its 55th anniversary, overnight figures show.

6.88m (34.7%) tuned in at 7.30pm on ITV and 165k (0.7%) on +1 as Johnny became the next Weatherfield resident to receive a visiting order from Rob, and Ken Barlow's sex life became an unlikely topic of discussion on the Street.

Emmerdale appealed to 5.76m (30.7%) at 7pm on ITV and 134k (0.6%) on +1 as Sam and Jai had a violent showdown.

Hollyoaks attracted 814k (4.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Reenie was arrested (+1: 40k / 0.2%), while E4's first look followed with 454k (2.4%) at 7pm (+1: 58k / 0.3%).

Neighbours continued with 724k (11.0%) at 1.35pm and 685k (4.0%) at 6pm on Channel 5 as Sonya went above and beyond with her support of Steph.

Elsewhere, Doctors aired to 1.38m (21.7%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Al hatched a crazy plan to appear as unattractive as possible to Mo.
