Ian Beale's emotional reunion with his mum Kathy helped EastEnders to top the ratings on Thursday (October 8), overnight figures show.

6.01m (31.3%) tuned in at 7.30pm on BBC One as Ian was rocked by the discovery that Kathy is still alive. BBC Three's repeat secured 395k (2.5%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale wasn't far behind, claiming 5.7m (31.7%) at 7pm on ITV and 101k (0.5%) on +1 as Pete suffered a shock accident as a result of Andy's recklessness. The audience increased to 5.78m (29.1%) at 8pm and 143k (0.7%) on +1 as a horrified Andy came to Pete's rescue.

Hollyoaks attracted 777k (4.7%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Nico set fire to Patrick's flat (+1: 59k / 0.3%), while E4's first look rose to the top of the multichannel ratings with 629k (3.5%) at 7pm as fans flocked to see the fallout (+1: 67k / 0.3%).

Doctors continued with 1.24m (21.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Emma tried to seek Howard's opinion over her pregnancy.

Neighbours mustered 647k (11.1%) at 1.45pm and 570k (4.4%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Paul took revenge against Josh.

Home and Away appealed to 230k (3.9%) at 1.15pm and 529k (3.5%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 358k (2.2%) at 6.30pm.
