Emmerdale brings in 5.6m with Vanessa's motherhood struggles

Emmerdale topped Tuesday's ratings (October 6) with its latest hour-long episode, overnight figures show.

5.58m (28.4%) tuned in at 7pm on ITV and 222k (1.1%) on +1 as new mum Vanessa admitted that she was struggling to bond with her son.

EastEnders managed 4.71m (22.5%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Kathy and Ian finally came face-to-face again in the latest clash with Emmerdale.

In the 30-minute head-to-head period itself from 7.30pm, Emmerdale had 5.41m (26.0%). BBC Three's EastEnders repeat screening was later boosted to 816k (4.9%) at 10pm.

Holby City attracted 4.2m (21.1%) at 8pm on BBC One as Adele and Jesse's wedding day arrived.

Hollyoaks interested 713k (4.1%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Cindy and S'Avage set a trap for the Gloved Hand Killer (+1: 15k / 0.1%), while an emotional E4 first look for Peri and Patrick was seen by 573k (3.1%) at 7pm and 116k (0.6%) on +1.

Doctors claimed 1.41m (22.4%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Niamh tried to advise Emma over her pregnancy.

Neighbours entertained 667k (10.5%) at 1.45pm and 703k (5.3%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Amy questioned the sudden appearance of her ex Liam.

Home and Away appealed to 260k (3.8%) at 1.15pm and 557k (3.6%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 396k (2.3%) at 6.30pm.
