EastEnders topped Friday's ratings (October 2) with Lindsey Coulson's exit as Carol Jackson, overnight figures show.

The Walford soap brought in 5.59m (28.5%) at 8pm on BBC One as Carol made the spontaneous decision to ride off into the sunset on Jim's motorbike rather than moving to Milton Keynes. BBC Three's repeat screening added 317k (1.9%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale wasn't too far behind, claiming 5.28m (31.6%) at 7pm on ITV and 155k (0.8%) on +1 as Chrissie and Bernice confronted Lawrence over his shock confession in the Robert shooting case.

Hollyoaks attracted 690k (4.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Dr S'Avage began to investigate the Gloved Hand Killer (+1: 53k / 0.3%), while E4's first look followed with 533k (3.2%) at 7pm and 128k (0.7%) on +1.

Doctors interested 1.31m (23.9%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Emma realised that she is pregnant.

Neighbours grabbed 593k (10.6%) at 1.45pm and 567k (4.6%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as an emotional few weeks finally took their toll on Terese.

Home and Away continued with 255k (4.5%) at 1.15pm and 489k (3.3%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 263k (1.7%) at 6.30pm.
