EastEnders topped the ratings on Thursday (September 24) with Charlie Cotton's mysterious exit episode, overnight figures show.

6.22m (33.7%) tuned in at 7.30pm on BBC One as fans were left to wonder whether Charlie had been killed by Ronnie and Vincent and Jane falsely confessed to a fling with Max in order to give him an alibi for Lucy's murder. BBC Three's repeat secured 335k (2.0%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale continued to perform well, attracting 5.75m (33.1%) at 7pm on ITV and 159k (0.9%) on +1 as Chas's animosity towards Robert hit new heights.

Hollyoaks claimed 735k (4.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Cleo's ultimatum left Pete shaken (+1: 56k / 0.3%), while E4's first look was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day with 635k (3.7%) at 7pm (+1: 92k / 0.5%).

Doctors continued with 1.3m (21.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Emma, Ayesha, Niamh and Hayden all took part in Challenge Max.

Neighbours appealed to 666k (10.9%) at 1.45pm and 536k (4.3%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Toadie lost his temper with Sonya.

Home and Away mustered 209k (3.3%) at 1.15pm and 427k (3.0%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 337k (2.1%) at 6.30pm.
