Coronation Street thrilled over 8 million viewers with its special live episode on Wednesday evening (September 23), overnight figures show.The hour-long broadcast, which saw Callum Logan killed by Kylie Platt, averaged 8.09m (36.3%) from 7.30pm on ITV and added 276k (1.2%) on +1 an hour later.
The live drama boosted Coronation Street to its highest rating since May 28, when 8.44m saw Kal Nazir killed off in the Victoria Court explosion.
After-show Coronation Street Live: Uncovered also performed well, attracting 543k (3.7%) at 10pm on ITV2 and 122k (1.6%) on +1.
Emmerdale claimed 5.78m (32.8%) at 7pm on ITV as Andy was furious to hear Robert tell the truth about Katie's death (+1: 90k / 0.4%). 5.54m (23.1%) returned at 8.30pm and 256k (1.2%) on +1 as Robert was arrested in an extra bonus episode.
Doctors continued with 1.37m (23.0%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Daniel helped a man come to terms with his forgotten past.
Neighbours interested 650k (10.9%) at 1.45pm and 669k (5.2%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as the Brennan family reached breaking point following the revelations about Russ.
Hollyoaks dipped to 615k (3.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as an emotional episode saw Reenie reveal Derek's true colours (+1: 48k / 0.2%), while E4's first look followed with 584k (3.3%) at 7pm (+1: 83k / 0.3%).
Home and Away managed 215k (3.5%) at 1.15pm and 578k (3.9%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 349k (2.2%) at 6.30pm.
