EastEnders rises to eight-week high with Max's trial

EastEnders rose to its best figure in eight weeks on Tuesday evening (September 22) with the latest drama at Max Branning's murder trial, overnight figures show.

The Walford drama was the most-watched programme of the day, bringing in 6.59m (33.8%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Max opened up over his traumatic past while giving evidence and Dean Gaffney made his return as Robbie Jackson.

This was EastEnders' highest rating since July 27, while BBC Three's repeat screening added 441k (2.7%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale attracted 5.78m (32.1%) at 7pm on ITV and 178k (0.9%) on +1 as Aaron tried to cover his tracks when Andy confronted him over Katie's death.

Holby City interested 4.4m (22.1%) at 8pm on BBC One as Elliot said his goodbyes.

Hollyoaks aired to 702k (4.3%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Reenie contemplated killing Derek (+1: 48k / 0.2%), while an emotional E4 first look followed with 572k (3.2%) at 7pm and 159k (0.8%) on +1.

Neighbours continued to perform well at lunchtime, claiming 794k (12.0%) at 1.45pm on Channel 5 as Russell's dark past was finally exposed. 613k (4.8%) caught the teatime screening at 5.30pm.

Doctors appealed to 1.34m (20.4%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Al and Howard continued to make plans for the future.

Home and Away continued with 224k (3.3%) at 1.15pm and 542k (3.7%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 309k (1.9%) at 6.30pm.
